What to expect

Therapy is a moment to moment encounter and it is important not to have too have too many preconceived ideas about how each session will be experienced. Even though my work is grounded in psychoanalytic theory, in practice therapy is more of an art than a science. An exploration of our unconscious to form a bridge between what we consciously know and feel but are unable to create meaning and understanding around. It's through the dialogue of expressing feelings, of exploring bodily sensations, observing complex behaviours and inspecting the immediate relationships with self and others that we start to form a frame to work through, one in which we can start to understand and explore the relationship between our conscious and our unconscious making sense together.

I work primarily as a Somatic Psychotherapist and will adjust how I work to your personal needs and requirements. Even though I generally operate through talking therapy, I also work with mindfulness processes of contacting the body and the felt sense; and we may include exploration of dreams, bodywork, art therapy, sound therapy and body movement exercises. These exploratory processes are agreed with you as we progress to bring about positive change, growth and healing.

The most important aspect is the safe non-judgmental environment, a place that feels safe enough to allow you to explore yourself and create the possibility for real change.
